Wow, it's hard to believe it's December 10th already! Today we have a story that shines as brightly as the ornaments on our trees! We're unwrapping the tale of our handblown glassware, a collaboration that embodies the very essence of Intertwined: Handmade for Good.
During our September trip to Guatemala, Tiffany and I had the incredible opportunity to visit Copavic, the glass recycling and hand-blowing workshop in Cantel, Guatemala, where our beautiful glasses come to life.
Glass bottles and other glass scraps are sorted by color, cleaned and crushed.
From the moment we arrived, we were mesmerized by the process. Watching the artisans meticulously sort the glass by color, then crush it into tiny pieces, and finally melt it with practiced precision was truly captivating. Each piece of glassware is a testament to their dedication and skill, carefully shaped through the ancient technique of glassblowing.
But our visit to Copavic was about more than just observing. We were welcomed into their community with open arms, and even had the chance to try our hand at glassblowing ourselves! It was a humbling experience that showed us firsthand the immense skill and talent it takes to create these beautiful pieces.
What truly touched our hearts, though, was the impact Copavic has on the lives of the artisans and their families. Founded in 1976, this cooperative provides stable employment and income for over 40 people. They're dedicated to training and mentorship, ensuring the glassblowing tradition is passed down to future generations while empowering the community.
When you purchase a piece of our handblown glassware, you're not just buying a beautiful object. You're supporting a community, a tradition, and a future filled with hope. You're bringing light and joy to someone's life, one glass at a time.
As we approach the holiday season, let's remember the power of connection and the importance of supporting those who make our lives richer. So raise a glass, not just to celebrate, but to the artisans of Copavic who pour their heart and soul into each and every piece they create.
