Unwrapping the Stories: 12 Days of Christmas - Nettle Placemats & Customers

As we approach the final days of our Unwrapping the Stories series, we find ourselves reflecting on the people who make Intertwined possible. Today, we're sharing two interconnected stories: one about a humble plant and the incredible women who transform it, and another about the amazing community that supports their work.

Day 11: The Magic of Himalayan Nettle

Let's rewind to 2017, when my husband, Chris, and I embarked on a life-changing trek through the Himalayas. Little did we know, this adventure would not only fill our hearts with breathtaking views and unforgettable memories, but it would also lead us to discover the hidden magic of Himalayan nettle.

Fast forward to the creation of Intertwined. As we searched for artisans to partner with, our Himalayan guides, Bishnu and Gokarna, introduced us to their sister-in-law, a talented felt crafter. It was through her that we discovered the wonders of nettle fiber, a sustainable and naturally beautiful material.

But the story of our nettle placemats doesn't end there. A google search led us to a Kathmandu Post article about Mala Thapa Magar, a remarkable woman who has dedicated herself to empowering women in Nepal through her nettle company. With another google search, I found a phone number. To my surprise, when I used that number to communicate with the company through WhatsApp, it was Mala herself! Through WhatsApp messages, we discovered a world of nettle products, from raw fiber to yarn and fabrics. Soon, the most exquisite nettle placemats adorned our online store!

Intertwined's partnership with Mala Thapa Magar isn't just about business; it's about empowering women and supporting sustainable practices. Today, her company indirectly employs around 600 people, changing lives through employment and income opportunities.

Day 12: Celebrating You, Our Intertwined Family

Intertwined wouldn't exist without the incredible support of our customers. Your unwavering support allows us to order handcrafted products from artisans in Nepal, Guatemala, Uganda, Morocco, and even our Afghan refugee seamstresses right here in Greensboro.

Your loyalty and passion inspire us every day. You believe in the power of sustainable fashion and ethical trade, and your choices make a real difference in the lives of artisans and their families.

We hope you've enjoyed unwrapping the stories behind our products. As we celebrate the season of giving, let us remember the power of connection and the positive impact we can make together.

Thank you for being a part of the Intertwined family!
