Original textile art—Mayan beauty meets Afghan craftsmanship and hope.

Description

Make a bold, meaningful statement with this striking framed Mayan textile—an art piece that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern design. The textile comes from a vintage Mayan huipil, handwoven in Guatemala, and is carefully stretched over a 16" x 20" canvas to highlight every intricate pattern and vibrant thread.

It’s then framed in a natural wood-edge floater frame that creates just the right amount of depth and contrast, letting the textile appear to “float” within the frame. The finished piece measures 17.5" x 21.5" and is ¾" deep, offering a clean, contemporary profile that works beautifully on its own or as part of a curated gallery wall.

Thoughtfully finished by Afghan refugee artisans in Greensboro, NC, this piece brings together heritage, craftsmanship, and purpose—ready to hang and ready to become the conversation starter of your space.

What makes framed vintage textiles special?

Framed vintage textiles bring the warmth of handwoven fabric into your home in a way that feels collected, personal, and full of history. Each piece begins with a vintage textile — often originally woven for use as clothing or part of daily life — and is preserved as wall art so the color, texture, and craftsmanship can be appreciated for years to come.

Because the textiles are vintage and handwoven, each framed piece is one of a kind. Small variations, signs of age, and woven details are part of what make them meaningful — not flaws, but reminders that these pieces have lived a life before becoming art.

ARE FRAMED VINTAGE TEXTILES ONE OF A KIND?

Yes. Each framed textile is made from a vintage handwoven textile, so the colors, patterns, woven details, and signs of age will vary from piece to piece. Even when two pieces share a similar color palette or style, no two are exactly the same.

That’s part of the beauty. You are not choosing mass-produced wall art — you are choosing a unique textile with texture, history, and character woven into it.

Care Instructions

Framed vintage textile art is easy to care for with a gentle touch. Wipe the frame with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. To clean the glass, spray glass cleaner onto a cloth — not directly onto the frame — and gently wipe the glass clean.

Avoid hanging your framed textile in direct sunlight or in very humid spaces, since both can affect vintage fabrics over time. With simple care, your piece will keep bringing color, texture, and story to your home for years.

What is a Huipil?

Meet the Artisans

Our Afghan Friends

OUR AFGHAN FRIENDS arrived in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2021 from Afghanistan, fleeing the country as refugees when the Taliban resumed power. We cannot use their names because some family members remain in Afghanistan. In Greensboro, they have quickly adjusted to their new lives and have found various jobs to provide additional support to their family. They use their expert seamstress abilities to assemble Intertwined's mixed-textile handmade throw pillows, combining fabrics (vintage and new) from various countries. They also frame our vintage textiles and assist with the production of the Huipil Christmas Trees.

Questions People Often Ask about Framed Vintage Textiles

How do I style framed textile wall art in my home?

Framed vintage textiles are an easy way to add color, texture, and a collected-over-time feel to your walls. Hang one as a small statement piece, pair two or three together, or mix them into a gallery wall with paintings, photographs, or other handmade wall decor.

Will my framed vintage textile look exactly like the photo?

Yes, unless otherwise noted, the piece shown is the exact one you’ll receive. Each framed vintage textile is one-of-a-kind, so the colors, pattern, and signs of age are part of that individual piece’s character.

Are framed textiles a good choice for a gallery wall?

Yes. Framed textile art is wonderful in a gallery wall because it adds softness, dimension, and visual interest beyond flat prints or photographs. The woven texture helps the whole arrangement feel warmer, more personal, and less “straight from a catalog.”

How do I care for framed vintage textile art?

Hang your framed textile away from direct sunlight, excess moisture, and very humid spaces. Dust the frame gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid spraying cleaners directly on the frame, glass, or textile.
