Why Choose a Wool Momo Blanket?

Heavier and more substantial than most blankets, wool momo blankets are designed to provide real warmth in colder months. Wool’s natural temperature-regulating properties help retain heat while remaining breathable. The result is a blanket that feels both comforting and deeply functional.

How Wool Momo Blankets Are Made

We had the chance to visit Byron and his family in Momostenango, a village in the highlands of Guatemala. Byron leads the cooperative of artisans who make our handwoven wool momo blankets—using techniques that have been passed down for generations.

The process begins with raw wool, which is carefully cleaned, brushed, and spun into yarn by hand. The yarn is then dyed an array of beautiful colors and prepared for weaving—wound onto a swift before moving to the loom.

Each Guatemalan wool blanket is woven on a large wooden foot loom, a process that takes both time and skill. Once woven, the blankets are taken to nearby natural volcanic hot springs, where they soak for several hours—softening the wool naturally, without chemicals.

After drying in the open air, each artisan wool blanket is brushed using a natural seed pod brush to create its soft, textured finish.

It’s a slow, thoughtful process—one that results in a warm, durable, handmade wool blanket made to bring comfort and connection into your home.
