Tiny Bubbles

As recycled glass is melted and handblown, tiny air pockets can become suspended in the glass, creating the small bubbles that give each piece character.

Handblown from recycled glass

Tiny bubbles, beautiful character
What Makes this glassware special?

Each piece is handblown by skilled artisans in Guatemala using recycled glass, so no two are exactly alike. You may notice tiny bubbles, slight variations in shape, subtle differences in thickness, or gentle shifts in color—natural signs of the handblown process, not flaws.

The glass is also thicker and sturdier than many delicate glasses, giving it a satisfying weight in the hand and making it well suited for everyday use. It’s beautiful enough for a dinner party, but practical enough for weeknight water, morning juice, or the “why not make this feel a little fancy?” moments in between.

Why recycled glass?

Recycled glass gives discarded materials a second life—and in places where waste collection and disposal can be inconsistent, that matters. In many Guatemalan communities, trash systems are not as regular or centralized as they are in much of the United States, so keeping usable glass out of the waste stream can help reduce what ends up in dumps, along roadsides, or burned.

The process also creates work. While recycled glass can reduce the need for new raw materials, it doesn’t magically turn into a beautiful drinking glass on its own. Someone has to collect the discarded glass, sort it by color, clean it, remove labels, break it down, melt it, and shape it by hand.

That means each piece supports both environmental care and skilled human labor. What might have been thrown away becomes something useful, sturdy, and beautiful for your table.

Care Instructions

This handblown glassware is thicker and sturdier than many delicate glasses, so it’s ready for everyday meals, dinner parties, and everything in between. It’s also dishwasher safe for easy care—because beautiful things should still be useful. As with most glassware, avoid moving directly from very hot to very cold temperatures.
