One-of-a-kind statement for your sofa or bed! Intertwined's gorgeous handmade throw pillow is sustainably made from a second-hand huipil, a traditional handwoven blouse worn by Mayan women in Guatemala. The vintage fabric that completes the pillow was once a traditional Mayan corte (skirt). Each one is sewn with care by Afghan refugee women resettled in North Carolina, providing meaningful employment and a new beginning.

This product is made with handmade, upcycled fabric. We believe the minor imperfections associated with vintage fabric are part of the charm and uniqueness of the item. We do our best to take photos that accurately represent the true colors and worn nature of the handwoven fabric, but colors vary across monitors, and photos can’t highlight all aspects of a product.

More About the Artisan...
OUR AFGHAN FRIENDS arrived in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2021 from Afghanistan, fleeing the country as refugees when the Taliban resumed power. We cannot use their names because some family members remain in Afghanistan. In Greensboro, they have quickly adjusted to their new lives and have found various jobs to provide additional support to their family. They use their expert seamstress abilities to assemble Intertwined's mixed-textile handmade throw pillows, combining fabrics (vintage and new) from various countries with our signature hemp fabric. They also create our stunning handmade bags from upholstery fabric that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
